The Large Hadron Collider | END OF THE WORLD?!
June 24, 2008 – 9:31 am
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding, from the miniscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.
Primates - when a Monkey comes across something it does not understand, it smashes it against a rock. Particle accelerators are basically the human way of smashing what we don’t understand (protons, neutrons, lead ions etc) against each other. But wow, these are opperated by some of the smartest people in the world, surly it must come across to them that this could be stupid!
Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyse the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC.
Come on, seriously? The ‘Big Bang’ (theory) isn’t called the BIG bang for nothing.
But there is only going to be a “beam” of protons and lead ions hitting each other, so there shoudn’t be any major side effect, but who knows what could happen. What if it splits up the protons or something stupid? They should of at least done it a bit deeper than 100m.
Critics are worried that mini-black holes made at the soon-to-open facility on the French-Swiss border might threaten the Earth’s very existence.

Mini black holes? Here’s what the CERN website says:
Microscopic black holes at the LHC refer to particles produced in the collisions of pairs of protons, each of which has an energy comparable to that of a mosquito in flight. Astronomical black holes are much heavier than anything that could be produced at the LHC.

Every safety concern is based on a hypothetical senario. I’m sure we’ll all be safe. As the mass of the experiments will be small, the concequences will be small, apparently. I can’t personally see anything bad happening given my understandings, but if myself and them are wrong, then no one will be left to say “haha you were wrong!” AMIRITE?

One Response to “The Large Hadron Collider | END OF THE WORLD?!”
I think there are no reason to care about end of the world. The maximum what can happen its complite annihilation of France and Switzerland and global Ice Age after it!
For security reason I suggest to the civilians in the location of this machine to leave this place at time of experiment, and the people who do this experiments to warn those people before machine start to go on full power - for them to pray!
And this will never happen, because its stupid as a fact… Live such long time by creating such long history of human race and to reach the final step its destroying of all(except of correcting), for Nova World!??? I think God have a lot of places in his\she’s hands to create New Worlds, or you think we dont like them because a lot of p0rn in internet!? OK… For example, the God is hate the p0rno, but why he is create them?
K.O. Have Nice Day, France and Switzerland!
